As a result of Chrysler closing the dealership of my cousin, Dale Davis, early in 2009, Douglas County no longer has a single new car dealership. A couple of years ago, fellow Douglas County historian, Paul Barker, searched through decades of Douglas County Herald issues to obtain the material needed for this history of auto dealerships in the county. |

This article about John Squire and his wife, Martha "Frankie" Brown, is placed here with permission by its author, Laura Lee Moncrief. Starting in the 1980s, Laura began researching her book, "Squire-Brown-Burton", and this article is a summary of the Squire portion of that book. It is both a wonderful article and a wonderful book if you're fortunate to have a copy. Here in late 2009, Laura is beginning to write an updated version of the "Squire-Brown-Burton" book. Also, more Brown and Burton articles are in process of the Douglas County Historical Journal. |

2004-"1830s Pioneer Woman -- A Probable History of Elizabeth Betsy Hall"
The Ozark Uncle wrote this article about his great-great grandmother. It was published in the Winter 2004 Edition of the Douglas County Missouri Historical Journal. In the 1830s, Betsy came into an Ozarks wilderness as a teen-age bride to Lyhue Brown. It made her one of the first white settlers in the area, and her story is extraordinary among the early women -- it is why the author has dubbed her the county's PIONEER WOMAN. |

During his research into the history of the Douglas County Missouri banks, the Ozark Uncle realized the 1930 Bank of Ava failure was a major event in the county's history. Here he transcribed all the weekly accounts of that tragedy as reported in the Douglas County Herald. |

2003-"CITIZENS BANK OF AVA - A DEPOSITOR'S SAFE HAVEN FOR DECADES"
The late Herman Davis was part of the old Citizens Bank from 1943 until his retirement as President and Chairman in 1984. Herman is the Ozark Uncle's first cousin, and the two of them worked together to provide this history for future generations to read. |

Brown's Cave sits high above the banks of Bryant Creek in Douglas County less than 2 miles south of Lyhue Brown's original 1830s-40s farm at what is now called Rippee Access. This article was written by the Ozark Uncle about an area that the Browns trace back their southern Missouri beginnings. |
